Honesty and integrity is very important between the agency and the candidate because it ensures that both parties can be open to express their views without offending each other.
General Advice for Job Hunting
Often the best time to start looking for new opportunities is while you are still employed.
This way your decision will be based on the opportunity and not on your diminishing financial situation or the need to find just any job. The majority of employers favor the employed and your market value is usually higher than when you are unemployed, so always keep your eye on any potential career opportunities, especially within your own organization or group of companies.
Curriculum Vitae
Your CV is your brochure even when you are just sending it to an agency. A good CV will highlight what you have to offer a potential employer in terms of your work ethic, personality, qualifications and your practical experience to date. This should be done in a format that is easy to read and keeps the reading interested.
The aim of a good CV is to get in the door, to sell yourself to a prospective employer on paper. Most CV's today are no longer than two or three pages long. Don't forget that recruiters and company managers are busy people so your CV needs to do the job for you in about 30 seconds.
Summary page : Should make an impact immediately. This is where you show off your personality and attributes.
Personal details : Should be your name, contact number and address. Your date of birth, marital status and dependants or nationality is not necessary.
Personal profile: Should be kept short and precise and cover your immediate ambitions as well as the key features of your career. Keep it to about three or four sentences.
Key skills: Using bullet points, note about eight key skills. They must be relevant to a particular position. Be precise with your wording and keep the sentences short.
Achievements: This can be done in the same way as the key skills and list about four particularly significant achievements.
Work history: Start with your most recent position and work backwards. Include the job title, company name and dates of employment. Give a short description (a sentence or two) of the job as well as your key responsibilities (use bullet points and list about six of the most relevant ones). If you have a long career history list the most recent on the first page and then place the secondary experience on the second page. It is not necessary to list jobs from year and years ago. You can offer the employer a full CV if they ask for it. Only go onto a third page if necessary.
At the end of your CV you need to have a brief personal profile describing yourself and your work ethic. You can also include brief details of any non work related attributes or activities that may be of interest like hobbies or volunteer work etc.
